EPO has published a very god survey on "Utilisation of patent protection in
Europe" Eposcript vol. 3 - 1994

in english, french and german.

Many numbers to cite!

Another source is the annual reports from EPO / WIPO and from the natioanl
patent office in each country, very often published on the net!
