Evaluating trademarks, etc.

I am trying to locate information on how to evaluate trademarks, brand
names, and trade names. Are there documented procedures or case studies on
how companies have evaluated the trademarks, brand names, and trade names
of companies they have acquired? How do companies decide to keep or
eliminate those trademarks? Are their regulatory/safety issues that should
be considered (for example, if the trademark is for a cleaner.)

My online searches in fee-based and free systems has yielded nothing on
this question. My sense is that there is information "out there", so if
anyone can point me towards any appropriate write-ups, I would be very
grateful.
