A Copy Right Question

Our company develops software for the Chemicals and Allied Products
Industries. It has been suggested by a number of our clients that we should
develop electronic handbooks, by computerizing information in existing
handbooks, such as Handbook of Solvents, Handbook of Raw Materials used in
Various Industries, etc. What we will do is to computerize names, property
values and citations, so that the properties can be viewed more easily in a
table form, and sorted to identify chemicals with pre specified property
values (for example find me chemicals with boiling points between 110-115C).

We are not sure whether this violates copyright laws and would appreciate
some help on where to find information on copyright laws related to this
problem.

Thanks for your help.

Best regards,
