I am so sorry I could not attend the PIUG meeting this year for I would have
enjoyed hearing the announcement of the first International Patent Award
going to Monty Hyams. It is entirely fitting that Monty receive this award
since he is responsible for the direction that Derwent took in
intellectually interpreting patented inventions that made it easier to
retrieve relevant references in the patent art. Although I came into this
profession during the end of Monty's reign at Derwent, his influence was
felt by us all.
Congratulations to Monty and to the distinguished selection committee.
Ford, you are to be commended for establishing this award.
