New JP number formats

We have recently been receiving document
orders for which the document numbers have
novel formats.

Novel format 1) Example: JP 8-2552720 B 961113

This is for a granted Japanese patent. The "8" is
superfluous as granted patents are numbered serially
as are granted U.S. patents.

Novel format 2) Example JP 99-11124987 A

This format has be ascribed to Derwent. Here, the
Western year "99" and the Japanese year "11"
both appear.

I hope that the inventors of these formats
are not operating under the illusion that they
advanced the art of patent information.
