PERI, the Pharmaceutical Education & Research Institute is once again offering
its patent information course. Although PERI's focus is on the pharmaceutical
and biotech industries, most of the information provided in the course is
applicable to patents and patent information of interest to people working in
any field of science or technology. The course information that follows is

        Description
                  This course is designed to provide a overview of the patenting
 process, sources of patent
                  information and the various means of answering patent
information requests pertaining to
                  drugs, devices, chemicals, and biologics. The basics of US and
 foreign patent laws and the
                  importance of exclusivity and patent term extension in the
pharmaceutical industry will be
                  discussed. Demonstrations of patent searching techniques will
be provided and participants will
                  have an opportunity to tour the US Patent and Trademark
Office. Vendors will be invited for
                  informal demonstration of databases and searching techniques.
       Who Should Attend
                  This course is ideal for information and library staff who
need a comprehensive overview of the
                  patenting process and sources of patent information.
Individuals working in R & D who need a
                  better understanding of patents and the patenting process and
those new to patent searching
                  are encouraged to attend.
