Does anyone know of methods of searching Greek alphabets in the patent
databases on the internet, particularly in the PCTGazette on the internet?
For example the title of a recent patent in the PCTGazette is
USE OF &agr;1&bgr;1 INTEGRIN RECEPTOR INHIBITORS AND
TGF-&bgr;1 INHIBITORS IN THE TREATMENT OF KIDNEY DISEASE.
where &agr;1 stands for Alpha and &bgr:1 stands for Beta, and they are the
textual depiction of the corresponding graphic notation in the full
specification (images).Similar notation is used by EPO in the Espace Access
disk and one can search this at least in the abstract field as
AB=Alpha +1w 1 +1w Beta +1w 1
which will pick not only the pure text form of Alpha1Beta1, but also the
graphic form too.
I have tried various methods of searching for this segment in the
PCTGazette, but without success. I have not tried similar searches in US
patent database or Espacenet. I wonder whether anyone has an experience in
searching for these Greek alphabets?
